Kipchoge: The fight against pollution is in our hands

Kenyan Eliud Kipchoge, who’s arguably the world’s greatest ever marathon runner, has made a call for people to work together to end pollution.

Kipchoge is backing a UN campaign to tackle air pollution has used World Environment Day to say that “if pollution rises then kids won’t perform well”.

“The fight against pollution is in our hands,” he told the BBC’s Newsday programme. People need to be educated about the dangers and then they will do something about it, he added.

Safaricom, Vodacom plan $13 million M-Pesa deal

Kenya’s Safaricom will start a joint venture worth $13 million with South Africa’s Vodacom to acquire the intellectual property rights of M-Pesa from Britain’s Vodafone, Safaricom’s CEO said on Thursday.

The two mobile phone operators will acquire the intellectual property rights to the financial services platform M-Pesa, from Britain’s Vodafone.

Safaricom chief executive Bob Collymore said the deal would be used to expand M-Pesa services to more African markets, and to develop new products.

KENYAN HOSPITAL OPENS HUMAN MILK BANK – A RARITY IN SUB-SAHARAN AFRICA

How long has it taken to open? What were the biggest obstacles?

The process of establishment of human milk banking in Kenya started in 2016. It was spearheaded by the NGO PATH, in partnership with APHRC and Kenya’s Ministry of Health, among other partners. It was rolled out in two phases.

During phase one we assessed people’s perceptions and acceptability of using donated human milk. We also looked at how feasible it would be to set a bank up. The results were encouraging. About 90% of participants were positive about it, 80% would donate their breast milk, and about 60% indicated that they would allow their children to be fed with donated human milk.

Air France plans daily flights to Kenya

Air France  plans to start daily flights to Nairobi from Paris.

Arthur Dieffenthaler, the airline’s Eastern Africa General Manager, was quoted speaking at Air France’s first anniversary  of the Kenyan route. “We will be increasing our flights on the Paris-Nairobi route to five flights a week. We further plan to launch daily flights in 2020,” The Star reports.

The airline recently increased frequencies between Paris-Charles de Gaulle International Airport (CDG) and Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport () (NBO) from three to five times a week. The additional flights commenced in March.
