AFRICAN DOCTORS INVOLVED IN RIVER BLINDNESS RESEARCH MILESTONE

Johannesburg – Ugandan doctor Amos Nyathirombo is one of 18 African doctors celebrating a scientific milestone after a six-year World Health Organisation-led research they co-participated in found a more effective drug against River Blindness.

The United States Food and Drug Administration agency announced last Saturday that it had approved Moxidectin 8 mg Oral for the treatment of River Blindness in patients aged 12 years or older, Uganda’s Daily Monitor reported on Monday.

South Africa participates in ACP ministerial meeting

Trade and Industry Minister Rob Davies and his deputy Bulelani Magwanishe will today participate in the 20th African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) ministerial meeting in Belgium.

The ACP Ministerial Committee and the 15th Joint ACP-European Union (EU) Ministerial Trade Committee meeting (JMTC) gets underway in Brussels today.

This week’s JMTC will exchange views on the future of multilateralism in light of recent pronouncements by some major global trade players, bearing in mind the redrawing of international trade partnerships, said the Department of Trade and Industry (dti) on Wednesday.
