SA medal hopeful Zazini pulls out of IAAF World Championships

The list of top South African athletes not available for the IAAF World Championships in Doha continues to grow, with rising star Sokwakhana Zazini the latest to pull out.

The 19-year-old was a medal hopeful in the men’s 400m, where he boasts a personal best of 48.73 seconds, which he achieved in Italy early in 2019.

He has been ruled out of the world champs, which run from 27 September to 6 October in the Qatari capital.

Blood bank a boost for Khayelitsha hospital

Cape Town – The Khayelitsha District Hospital (KDH) has become the fifth hospital to receive a blood bank through a partnership between the Western Cape government and the Western Cape Blood Service (WCBS).

The blood bank will operate for 24 hours and will result in rapid availability of cross-matched blood to the hospital and other surrounding hospitals, where the demand is always high, particularly in trauma wards.

Gregory Bellairs, chief executive of Western Cape Blood Service, said this was the first blood bank they had opened in more than 20 years.

The Proteas are eager to get India tour started

The Proteas are keen to get their tour of India off to a winning start as they gear up for their first T20 international encounter against their hosts at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamshala on Sunday.

The tour consists of three matches across three different venues (Dharamshala, Mohali and Bangalore) that boast different conditions, but David Miller believes that the team is more than up to the challenge.
