SPECIAL WEF FORUM FOCUSES ON FIXING SA

The World Economic Forum (WEF), the international organisation that brings together the globe’s most influential business and political leaders at Davos each year, held an extraordinary forum in Johannesburg last week to discuss reconstruction in the post-Zuma era.

Chaired by Klaus Schwab, “the father of multi-lateral stakeholder engagement”, it brought together 60 global and South African business leaders, 23 cabinet ministers, top government officials and academics to discuss action in 10 areas of the economy ranging from innovation to regional integration and growth and job creation.

British MP claims UK law firm complicit in state capture in South Africa

British politician Peter Hain has accused London-headquartered law firm Hogan Lovells of being complicit in state capture in South Africa.

Lord Hain, a Labour party peer and former anti-apartheid campaigner, is an outspoken critic of President Jacob Zuma, the Gupta family and companies he says have been involved in corruption linked to the SA government.

In his latest salvo in the UK House of Lords on Monday evening, Hain said that he had referred law firm Hogan Lovells to the UK’s Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) for allegedly enabling corruption at the SA Revenue Service (SARS).

Zuma to host Africa Day Celebration at presidential guesthouse in Pretoria

Johannesburg – President Jacob Zuma is expected to host an Africa Day Celebration at Sefako Makgatho Presidential Guesthouse in Pretoria on Thursday. The Presidency said Africa Day was celebrated annually on May 25 to mark the formation of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) on May 25, 1963 and the African Union (AU) in 2002, as well as to chart the progress made by the continent since 1994.

Zuma Hints At Tapping Into Karoo Shale Gas

South Africa is looking to source gas from neighbouring countries as part of its energy mix, President Jacob Zuma said on Thursday.

Noting that South Africa would be looking to various forms of energy, including hydro power, gas, renewable fuel and nuclear power to face up to the current energy challenge, he said: “We have discovered shale gas deposits in our own Karoo region.”
