Local golfer claims the Blue Jacket in Nairobi

A very popular local golfer from Mamelodi has made history last week when he achieved his first success in the Sunshine Series by winning the KCB Karen Masters in Kenya.

Before the start of the KCB Karen Masters in Nairobi, Kenia last week, Toto Thimba told the media that he was going to win the KCB Karen Masters by 10 shots.

On the last day of the tournament, the very popular Mamelodi golfer shot a brilliant final-round 65 for a total 26-under-par 262 to claim his maiden Sunshine Tour victory, albeit by three shots at Karen Country Club in Kenia.

Durban July: Do It Again does the double

Do it Again becomes only the fifth horse in history to win back-to-back Durban July titles.

A dramatic pre-gate scratching of the race favourite Hawaam opened the door for 2018 winner Do It Again to become the fifth horse in the 123 years of the Durban July to win back-to-back when he snuck home at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Saturday.

Trained by Justin Snaith and ridden by Richard Fourie, the gelding was always going to be up there with the contenders and when Hawaam was scratched following an injury on entrance to the starting gate the defending champion slipped into the favourite slot to bag the R4.25 million.

Manyonga and Samaai carry South Africa’s hopes in Lausanne

Long jumpers Luvo Manyonga and Ruswahl Samaai will carry the hopes of South Africa at the IAAF Diamond League event in Lausanne, Switzerland.

The Lausanne meeting takes place on Friday 5 July and Manyonga and Samaai are the only South Africans entered in Diamond League events. Long jump is not the most TV-friendly activity, with individual jumps shown between other events. Viewers should be aware that Long jump starts at 20:45 SAST but not every jump will be broadcast.
