Samsung’s mobile division continues to struggle

Samsung earned $14.13 billion in operating profit in the fourth quarter of last year but this stellar performance can’t really be attributed to the company’s mobile division. Samsung’s mobile business has been under pressure for quite a while now due to several factors such as increasing competition from Chinese rivals in key markets.

The company released its earnings results for Q4 2017 today and they reveal that the struggles of its mobile business are far from over.

It may get worse before it gets better.

Samsung’s fastest-ever SATA SSD – South African pricing

Benchmarks for Samsung’s new 860-series SSDs are in, showing impressive performance.

Samsung has launched two new SATA SSDs, the 860 EVO and the 860 PRO – aimed at the mainstream and professional markets respectively.

Samsung’s previous-generation 850 EVO SSD dominated performance and endurance comparisons against similarly-priced drives, making it an ideal choice for a consumer SSD.

The more expensive 850 PRO competed against the best drives on the market and regularly outpaced them in terms of performance.

According to early benchmark and pricing data, the new 860-series drives have improved on the previous generation.

Samsung debuts Galaxy Note8

The stakes are high for Samsung Electronics’ roll-out of the Note8, after the previous model’s exploding battery fiasco last year.

Like the Note7, which was scrapped and cost the South Korean company an estimated US$6bn, the new smartphone sports a big screen and advanced features to make it a more versatile device compared with Samsung’s main Galaxy S8 flagship product. Like its predecessors, it includes a stylus.
