SPRINGBOKS SLUMP TO SEVENTH IN WORLD RANKINGS

The Springboks have dropped to No 7 in the World Rugby rankings following their 22-20 defeat against Wales in Washington DC on Saturday.

South Africa were ranked sixth before this one-off Test, sandwiched between fifth-placed Scotland and Wales in seventh.

However, the two-point loss to Wales sees the Springboks docked 1.04 rating points from 83.81 to 82.77 and relegated to seventh.

Wales gained a 1.04 points increase, enough to climb two places from seventh to fifth, above South Africa and Scotland.

The rest of the top 10 remain unchanged.

World Rugby rankings (Top 10):

New Zealand 93.99 2. Ireland 89.11 3. England 86.23 4. Australia 85.49 5. [...]

The 2018 Jaguar Simola Hillclimb delivered an enthralling mix of thrills and excitement, with some stunning new records being set on the Simola Hill – both amongst the competitors’ times, as well as the number of spectators attending the three-day event.

More than 17 000 people attended the ninth edition of the Hillclimb, held in Knysna from 4 to 6 May, about 2000 more than last year’s record-breaking attendance.

Records tumbled

His three assistant coaches will be Jacques Nienaber, Pieter de Villiers and Mzwandile Stick, while Aled Walters will join the management team as Head of Athletic Performance.

Nienaber previously served as a Springbok defence coach for a [...]

5 talking points: Super Rugby Week 1 + 2

Sport24’s Herman Mostert highlights FIVE talking points after Round 1 of the 2018 Super Rugby competition:

Discipline issues at Newlands

It was no surprise when the season’s first yellow card went to a Jaguares player – fullback Joaquin Tuculet was sent to the sin-bin in the 26th minute of his side’s clash against the Stormers at Newlands.

The Argentine side’s discipline has left much to be desired since their introduction into the tournament in 2016 and the happenings at Newlands on Saturday suggested that not much will change this season.

The Stormers were themselves guilty of giving away silly penalties and hooker Ramone Samuels’ 64th minute yellow [...]
