WORLD JAZZ STARS HEAD TO SOWETO

From Thursday, music lovers from all walks of life will be heading to the Soweto Theatre in Jabulani for the first Soweto International Jazz Festival.

Power of Women, Inspiration Night and Celebration of our Future are some of the themes that will define the celebration of the music forms loved in the township. The last one is particularly relevant, says organiser Nolan Baynes of International Arts Solutions, because the festival coincides with Youth Day.

WE GO BEHIND-THE-SCENES WITH MOZART AND SALIERI

Experience the modern ballet as it’s never been seen before.

 

The local ballet company is starting the year with a ground-breaking adaptation of Alexander Pushkin’s short story Mozart and Salieri.

Acclaimed choreographer, Marc Goldberg, has combined a classical story with a 21st century design to bring a sweeping and cinematic experience to modern ballet as it’s never been seen before.

The show boasts 3D-mapping, animated projections and costumes by three separate designers and is currently on stage at Artscape Opera House in Cape Town with only 3 performances left.

Hofmeyr vows that ‘show will go on’ after George municipality withdraws concert consent

Controversial Afrikaans singer Steve Hofmeyr has vowed that the “show will go on”, after the George Municipality withdrew permission for him to lease out the local hall for his concert next week.

He confirmed to News24 on Thursday that he was consulting lawyers and that the municipality would have to explain their actions.

“The George town council first gives permission and then takes it away,” he said.

“That show will carry on. At the same venue. We are pursuing litigation.”

He said “being gagged by liberals” was “nothing new” for him.
