WHOPPING INCREASE IN PETROL PRICES

Motorists are in for a massive 82c-a-litre increase in the price of petrol on Tuesday.

This is for both 93- and 95-octane petrol. Diesel will also increase even further by between 85 and 87 cents a litre, depending on the grade.

This comes on the back of increases in May that took fuel prices to record highs.

Paraffin will cost 82 cents a litre more. Energy Minister Jeff Radebe announces the adjustments on Friday afternoon, saying they were the result of a depreciation in the rand against the dollar and an increase in the price of crude oil.

NEW ONLINE SYSTEM TO PAY CAPE TOWN TRAFFIC FINES

Cape Town is taking the headache out of paying traffic fines with a new online system.

Motorists whose fines have progressed to warrants of arrest are now able to pay them on paycity.co.za‚ rather than sending a cheque through the mail or paying in person. JP Smith‚ the city’s mayoral committee member for safety and security‚ said Cape Town will be sending out SMS and email messages to those with outstanding fines to notify them of the online system.

“This is a massive step [...]

Mid-month data is pointing towards a petrol price decrease of around 30 cents a litre while the cost of diesel is likely to fall by approximately 40 cents and illuminating paraffin by 21 cents.

This would bring the price of 95 Unleaded down to R13.82 in Gauteng and R13.33 at the coast.

However, current trends indicate that an even bigger decrease is possible – depending on how oil prices and the currency play along [...]

I was not drunk – motorist charged with killing two cyclists.

Durban – Omesh Ramnarain, the motorist charged with crashing into and killing two cyclists on the M4 Highway leading out of Durban almost two years ago, says he was not drunk on the morning of the accident.

The Durban Regional Court on Monday heard his version that he had only consumed four cider drinks during that evening although at one stage “other patrons” at the bar had split drinks on him.

He also denied any negligence claiming that he was driving home at about 05:00 when he heard a “loud bang” and his windscreen shattered.

“I braked and moved towards the left in order to stop and moments later heard another bang. I could [...]
