DURBAN’S NEW TAXI INITIATIVE GOES LIVE

The face of Durban’s public transport changed this week with the launch 150 branded minibus taxis in the city centre that will offer commuter an enhanced service as part of the city’s ambitious GO!Durban project.

The eThekwini Municipality’s mini-bus taxi incentive programme, called “Moja Cruise” kicked off on Monday after months of behind the scenes collaboration between the Ethekwini Metro Taxi Council (EMTC) – the leadership body of the mini-bus taxi industry – and the city.

In the past, when I would go country to country, clients would complain when I would show examples from outside of their region or country. The might say, ‘our country is different’, says Ray Gaul, VP of research and analytics: market insights at Kantar Consulting. He says that recently, that story has changed. OBAMA PERFECT CHOICE FOR MANDELA DAY LECTURE.

The Nelson Mandela foundation’s Luzuko Koti said Obama‚ with his global reach‚ was the ideal speaker to raise uncomfortable questions‚ provoke dialogue and draw attention to values that today were under threat.

“One of the things we are dealing with is captured democracies that don’t work for the poor‚ that don’t work for people in countries that are underdeveloped‚ where people are made to be rubber stampers of decisions that are made elsewhere. We wanted someone who is going to interrogate that‚” he explained.

‘Investors abroad inspired by new president’

Treasury Director General Dondo Mogajane has told Eyewitness News the country’s new leadership has helped Treasury officials, business and labour in their discussions with investors abroad.

Treasury is leading a high-level delegation including representatives of labour and business on a week-long investor roadshow in London, Boston and New York.

The purpose of the roadshow is to continue developing relationships with international investors and to provide them with an update after budget 2018.

It’s understood that new Finance Minister Nhlanhla Nene has been widely welcomed by investors.
