Bafana Bafana Afcon 2021 qualifying fixtures confirmed

Bafana Bafana are set to kick off their Afcon 2021 qualifiers with a tough away fixture.

Bafana Bafana will kick off their bid for a second consecutive appearance in the continent’s premier soccer competition with a trip to Ghana later this year.

Stuart Baxter’s men begin their Afcon 2021 in November, and have been drawn in Group C alongside the Black Stars, Sudan and one of Mauritius and Sao Tome e Principe, who are set to square off for the final spot in the pool.

They jet off to the West African nation first up, with the opening fixture taking place on Friday, 15 November.

This is followed by a home game, where they will be squaring off against Sudan [...]

Nigeria 2-1 Bafana – last-gasp goal as South Africa crash out of Afcon 2019

South Africa’s Bafana Bafana suffered Africa Cup of Nations heartbreak as they slipped to a last-gasp defeat against Nigeria in the last eight on Wednesday night.

William Ekong’s 90th-minute winner dealt the cruelest blow to Stuart Baxter’s side, who had fought back to level in an even contest at Cairo’s International Stadium.

Baxter refuses to blame Bafana Bafana players after poor AFCON display

Bafana Bafana have been all but knocked out of the competition, but Stuart Baxter believes the poor performances have nothing to do with the players.

Head coach Stuart Baxter defended his players after another poor showing at the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) saw them fall to a 1-0 defeat to Morocco.

Poor showing

The result means South Africa’s chances of qualifying for the knockout stages of the competition are pretty slim.

Of their three group matches Bafana only managed to beat Nambia, while losing to both the Ivory Coast and Namibia. All three of the matches ended 1-0.

The only hope they have of making the knockout rounds is by finishing as one of the [...]

Are Bafana Bafana out of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations

Bafana Bafana‘s last gasp defeat to Morocco on Monday night left South Africa’s hopes of a second Africa Cup of Nations dangling by a thread.

With seconds left on the clock, a scramble in the box saw Morocco grab a 1-0 win that ensured that Bafana Bafana finished third in Group D.

That third place finish leaves Bafana on the bubble, so-to-speak, knowing that the top four teams in that position out of the six groups in total will also progress to the round of 16.

Bafana are currently the fourth best placed third-placed team (I really hope you’re following that) with both the other concluded groups sporting better performing teams in that slot. Group B‘s Guinea [...]
