Rhino release: European parks bring animals to Rwanda

“It’s just fantastic.

“These animals were taken from Africa decades ago to display to the public [in European zoos] and now have a real conservation role in Rwanda,” Mark Pilgrim, Chester Zoo’s chief executive says proudly.

He is summing up the significance of the largest transportation of rhinos from Europe to Africa to ever happen.

It culminated on Monday as five zoo-born eastern black rhinos were released in the vast Akagera National Park.

Just Hanging out, Hero anti-poaching rangers share incredible selfies casually hanging out with gorillas

Anti-poaching rangers have shared a series of incredible selfies posing and relaxing with the gorillas they risked their lives to protect.

The heart-warming snaps were taken at Congo’s Virunga National Park on Thursday, days after one ranger died in the line of action.

At least 600 rangers work at the safari to protect the animals that can weigh up to a staggering 180 kilos, The Sun reported. Describing their work on their website, the park said it has been “deeply” impacted by war and armed conflict over the last 20 years. In total, around 1790 rangers have died trying to save the lives of gorillas.

In a unique video uploaded by the park, one of the female pachyderms, Faa Mai, can be seen interrupting Chailert’s interaction with a group of visitors.

Amused by her large companion’s insistence, Chailert can’t help but giggle as Faa Mai nudges her along one of the park trails.

“She pushed me along out into the field, directing [...]
