ANC TAKES EARLY LEAD AS RESULTS START TRICKLING IN

It will still be more than 48 hours before South Africans know the final results.

Nationally, the African National Congress (ANC) is enjoying an early lead followed by the Democratic Alliance (DA) and the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF).

By 4am on Thursday morning, 887,867 valid votes had been captured.

Party agents sat anxiously with their eyes fixed to their computer screens and monitors showing the early votes.

The ANC has taken an early lead at just over 50% nationally followed by the DA and EFF at 28% and 7%, respectively.

In the Western Cape, the DA was sitting on 60% of the vote so far.

Ramaphosa ANC won’t disappoint those who vote for party

Ramaphosa promised that African National Congress (ANC) members responsible for state capture or found guilty of corruption would not be part of his Cabinet or Parliament.

African National Congress (ANC) president Cyril Ramaphosa appealed to South Africans to re-elect the ANC. He promised that the party won’t disappoint those who vote ANC.

Ramaphosa was speaking during the party’s Siyanqoba rally at a packed Ellis Park Stadium on Sunday.

GET WISE, DON’T NATIONALISE – KGANYAGO

South African Reserve Bank head Lesetja Kganyago warned that he believes nationalising the central bank, which the ANC resolved to do at its December conference, would be a costly exercise that would take time and not necessarily produce the desired results.

At the Reserve Bank’s AGM in Pretoria, he told Business Times that he does not believe nationalisation is a good idea.

“Getting rid of private shareholders would not necessarily improve governance”, said the economist.

“Experience has taught us that boards approved by government are no guarantee of goo governance, nor are they a guarantee that decisions will be taken with the interests of the broader [...]

SA BUSINESSES BACK R100M POVERTY ALLEVIATION PLAN

President Cyril Ramaphosa responded to this at an ANC lekgotla, announcing that the ruling party will tell government “to move with urgency to develop and implement a stimulus package to ignite growth that will lead to the creation of jobs, especially for young people and women”.

But eyes should also be on corporate South Africa to see how it will respond to these latest numbers.
