GET WISE, DON’T NATIONALISE – KGANYAGO

South African Reserve Bank head Lesetja Kganyago warned that he believes nationalising the central bank, which the ANC resolved to do at its December conference, would be a costly exercise that would take time and not necessarily produce the desired results.

At the Reserve Bank’s AGM in Pretoria, he told Business Times that he does not believe nationalisation is a good idea.

President Cyril Ramaphosa responded to this at an ANC lekgotla, announcing that the ruling party will tell government “to move with urgency to develop and implement a stimulus package to ignite growth that will lead to the creation of jobs, especially for young people and women”.

On 27 April 2009, the 46664 concerts and the Nelson Mandela Foundation invited the global community to join them in support of an [...]

Hofmeyr vows that ‘show will go on’ after George municipality withdraws concert consent

Controversial Afrikaans singer Steve Hofmeyr has vowed that the “show will go on”, after the George Municipality withdrew permission for him to lease out the local hall for his concert next week.

He confirmed to News24 on Thursday that he was consulting lawyers and that the municipality would have to explain their actions.

“The George town council first gives permission and then takes it away,” he said.

“That show will carry on. At the same venue. We are pursuing litigation.”

He said “being gagged by liberals” was “nothing new” for him.

He maintained his concerts were musical and had [...]
