Ex-student confesses to killing 17 in Florida school shooting

A troubled teen has confessed to gunning down 17 people at his former high school in Florida, court documents showed on Thursday, as the FBI admitted it had received a tip-off about the 19-year-old gunman yet failed to stop him.

As Americans reeled from the country’s worst school massacre since the horror at Sandy Hook six years ago, President Donald Trump suggested the root cause of the violence was a crisis of mental health – and defied calls to address gun control.

Wikipedia is ending zero-cost data access

Wikipedia has announced the Wikipedia Zero program will end this year, effectively ending zero-cost data access to its service. Well, for the time being at least.

Rand firmer on trade surplus, weaker dollar

The Rand firmed against the dollar yesterday, supported by a weaker greenback and data showing the country’s trade surplus widened last year.

On a cumulative basis the trade balance between January and December was at a R80.55bn surplus compared to a R1.05bn surplus over the same period in 2016.

“One of the catalysts is the slight dollar weakness that has come into the market that [...]

FBI challenges White House over explosive Russia case memo

Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA) has prepared a potentially explosive memo that reportedly calls into question the FBI’s surveillance of a former Trump campaign aide

The FBI warned Wednesday it has “grave concerns” over the accuracy of a secret Congressional memo that could depict the agency as deeply politicized, as President Donald Trump’s top aide signalled the White House would allow the document’s release.

Based on highly classified information, the four-page memo — written by Republican lawmaker Devin Nunes, the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee — suggests that the Justice Department and the FBI abused their power in running surveillance on a member of [...]
