Rabada makes most of suspension

Proteas fast bowler Kagiso Rabada has admitted the past week has been “a bit of a whirlwind”, but he is taking it all in his stride.

The young bowler is currently suspended for the next two Test matches against Australia for brushing the shoulder of the visiting captain Steve Smith during the second Test at St George’s Park.

Cricket South Africa are appealing the decision, but the 22-year-old is just trying to put it all behind him.

Luvuyo Memela was kept on the bench as a tactical secret weapon‚ Orlando Pirates coach Milutin Sredojevic has said after the forward came on and scored a brace in the Buccaneers’ 3-1 Soweto derby win against Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday.

Rassie the new Springbok coach

Rassie Erasmus will spearhead a streamlined but experienced Springbok management team until the end of the 2023 Rugby World Cup, SA Rugby confirmed on Wednesday, as the former Springbok captain will combine his Springbok coaching duties with his current role as Director of Rugby at SA Rugby.

The 45-year-old Erasmus takes over the national coaching duties from Allister Coetzee, who was in charge of the Boks during the past two years. His three assistant coaches will be Jacques Nienaber, Pieter de Villiers and Mzwandile Stick, while Aled Walters will join the management team as Head of Athletic Performance.

PIRATES CLOSE GAP ON SUNDOWNS IN CHIPPA UNITED THRASHING

Orlando Pirates took full advantage of league leader Sundowns’ slip-up when they thrashed Chippa United 4-2 in Port Elizabeth on Sunday afternoon.

Orlando Pirates beat Chippa United 4-2 at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium. 

Sundowns had dropped valuable points just 24 hours prior to Pirates’ win when they came from a goal down to draw 1-1 against SuperSport United in a thrilling Tswane Derby at the Lucas Moripe Stadium.
