Makhura believed digital revolution could address Gauteng unemployment crisis

Gauteng Premier David Makhura has placed his hopes on the advent of the fourth industrial revolution to provide solutions for the province’s youth unemployment crisis.

Makhura delivered his state of the province address at the Gauteng legislature on Monday where he said nearly 2-million young people in the province were unemployed, not in schooling or receiving any sort of training.

The interventions proposed by the province appeared heavily centred on taking advantage of the digital economy to create employment opportunities.

Zuma makes NPA representations at the eleventh hour

President Jacob Zuma submitted his representations stating why he should not face prosecution for the now infamous 2009 spy types saga to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) late on Wednesday evening.

The representations were initially supposed to be submitted in November 2017, but National Director of Public Prosecutions Shaun Abrahams extended the deadline to January 31, 2018.

NPA spokesperson Luvuyo Mfaku has confirmed that the president’s legal representatives submitted his representations at 21:00 at the NPA offices.

26.3 million voters eligible to vote in 2016 Municipal Elections

The Chief Electoral Officer Mr Mosotho Moepya has certified the voters’ roll for the 2016 Municipal Elections paving the way for a record 26 333 3535 voters to cast their ballots on 3 August

The voters’ roll contains 2 678 307 more voters (11.3% increase) than in the previous Municipal Elections in 2011 and a 42.5% increase in the number of voters since the first Municipal Elections using a voters’ roll in 2000. It is also 943 203 more (3.7% increase) than were on the voters’ roll for the 2014 National and Provincial Elections.

The voters’ roll contains approximately 77% of all eligible citizens of voting age based on population estimates provided by Statistics South Africa
