Countdown has begun for rugby’s debut at Moses Mabhida Stadium

Rugby will make its much-anticipated debut at the iconic Moses Mabhida Stadium on Friday 16 June when former Cell C Sharks favourite Fred Michalak will lead out a star-studded French Barbarians side against the SA ‘A’ team in Durban on Youth Day. This match will kick-off at 16h45.

Over that weekend, the City of Durban will proudly host not just this festival match, but also the Castle Lager Incoming Series Test between the Springboks and France at Growthpoint KINGS PARK, on Saturday 17 June (kick-off at 17h00).

‘Hideous’ Cristiano Ronaldo statue sparks social media laughs

When the island of Madeira on Wednesday renamed its airport in honour of its hometown hero Cristiano Ronaldo, all eyes were expected to be on the four-time world player of the year who is adored not only for his soccer skills but also his model looks.

But grabbing attention instead was a bronze bust of the player with a toothy grin and bulging eyes that instantly created a laugh on social media because of its debatable likeness.

“I defy you not to feel better after viewing this picture of Cristiano Ronaldo alongside his portrait bust,” wrote one Twitter user, Tom Sutcliffe (@tds153).

Facebook Users Make Their Own News Bubbles

Facebook users who are the most news-obsessed are also the most likely to interact with a small number of news sources, new research finds.

The study is a look at the architecture of social media polarization — essentially, how people are so effective at sorting themselves into opposing groups and filtering out alternative opinions. Though Facebook has algorithms that feed users content they’re likely to enjoy, previous research has found that people’s own choices on the social network are a stronger influence on the sorts of opinions those individuals see. The nominees for the 2017 awards were announced at a glitzy event in Johannesburg on Tuesday evening, attended by some of the biggest names in SA music

Amazulu hitmaker Amanda Black was perhaps the happiest on the night, scoring nominations in the Best Pop, Best Female, Best RnB, Best New Artist and Song of the Year categories.

Babes Wodumo, Nasty C and Kwesta all scored four nominations each.
