Department evolves to improve housing delivery

The Department of Human Settlements is changing the way it does things to deliver houses more efficiently to communities in need.  The department has put together a “3C protocol”, which will see better coordination, cooperation and collaboration in human settlement projects.

Human Settlements Minister Lindiwe Sisulu on Tuesday said the 3C model will be used in the development of mega projects of no less than 15 000 rental, subsidised and mortgaged housing units.

“These projects will each provide housing for an estimated 45 000 to 60 000 individuals,” the Minister said at the UNISA Human Settlements Seminar held in Tshwane on Tuesday.

Sun International targets energy savings

Sun International is targeting at least R30m in energy savings at its casinos and hotels by investing in energy-saving interventions ranging from the insulation of geysers and pipes to adopting energy efficient lighting and coaching staff to conserve energy.

The targeted savings were identified by an energy efficiency audit of the leisure and gaming company’s facilities funded by the National Business Initiative’s Private Sector Energy Efficiency (PSEE) programme. 1000 Hills Experience

Mpumalanga mountain lodge reopens after six years

Blue Mountain Lodge, situated between Sabie and Hazy view, Mpumalanga, reopened last month, after being closed for six years. The lodge was acquired by Lefe Group from the Netherlands in November, 2016.

The lodge sleeps 30 guests. It comprises a manor house as well as, eight Victorian suites, four quadrant suites, and the Ballentine suite. The suites each accommodate two guests. The lodge’s Donovan Louw explains that the ballentine suite, otherwise known as the Presidential suite, is where Nelson Mandela used to stay during his visits to the area between 1992 and 2002.  Children under the age of 15 are restricted, except for the manor house.
