Listeria outbreak: SA neighbours ban meat exports

Four countries in southern Africa on Monday took steps against South African chilled meat imports made at a factory found to be the origin of the world’s worst-ever listeria outbreak.

Mozambique and Namibia announced they were immediately suspending imports of the products. Botswana said it was recalling the items “with immediate effect”, while Zambia called on South African retail chains in its country to pull the incriminated goods from local shelves.

Samsung’s new flagship Galaxy phone feels a lot like the old one

Samsung has officially unveiled its newest flagship smartphones, the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+.

Business Insider attended the company’s press conference in Barcelona, and got some time to spend hands-on with both devices.

Major windfall for Clicks workers

JSE-listed retail healthcare group Clicks’ workers are set to receive a major windfall of R1.27billion after selling up to 7642904 Clicks Group ordinary shares at R166 a share.

Shares are held by 6814 employees, with black employees holding 87percent of the shares and women 64percent. Pharmacists comprise 5percent of the employee stock ownership plan (Esop) beneficiaries. Participating employees receive a cash dividend annually, equal to 10percent of the total dividend paid to ordinary shareholders each year.

The Clicks Group Employee Share Ownership Trust (Esop Trust) disposed of the shares to unwind 50percent of the scheme.

Can we expect LG speakers with Google Assistant in SA this year?

Last year at LG Innofest, the company had a bit of a mixed message around, to say the least.

Now that the company has a few Google-powered devices, such as the CLOi robot and ThinQ speaker, you might be wondering about a local launch. Don’t count on it, unfortunately.

LG’s Tony Dos Santos confirmed that they’d be focusing on general portable speakers for the South African market for now.
