Local film ‘Moffie’ to make world premiere at 76th Venice Film Festival

Local film “Moffie”, will have its world premiere in the official selection of the 76th Venice Film Festival which starts on August 28, 2019.

“Moffie”  was made in association with Hermanus’ Cape Town-based Penzance Films with the support of the Department of Trade and Industry South Africa.

Local artist on her hair artwork that went viral

She’s always loved hair and treated every head she worked on as a blank canvas to create magic when she was a hairdresser.

As far as Lebohang Motaung is concerned, hair is the single most versatile part of the human body as it can be changed, coloured and styled to communicate your personality – or how you feel – to the rest of the world.

And now she’s turned it into a visual wonderwork too. Lebohang recently shot into the spotlight when one of her art pieces went viral on social media. The talented 27-year-old used real hair on three canvases that were linked via braids in a striking piece titled Formation.

#EveryDropCounts: Cape dam levels rise with province at 49%, City at 63%

Cape Town – The average dam level in the Western Cape continues to increase as extreme weather moves in across the province this week.

The latest average level for dams across the province is 49.6% (2018: 50%). The City of Cape Town’s dams have reached an average level of 63.8% full (2018: 56%).

The MEC for Local Government, Environmental Affairs and Development Planning, Anton Bredell, says citizens across the province can expect a few days of very bad weather as the winter will arrive in full force this week.

Ford to add 1,200 jobs in South Africa from August

Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa (FMCSA) will employ 1,200 new employees from August 2019 to meet the growing international and local demand for the New Ranger, Ranger Raptor and Everest models.

Ford said that these additions will bring the company’s total employment in South Africa to approximately 5,500 employees.

At the same time, it will significantly bolster supplier companies by adding around 10,000 jobs in this sector.
