Another Sona? Here’s what you need to know

President Cyril Ramaphosa is set to deliver the first state of the nation address (Sona) of the 6th Parliament on Thursday in Cape Town.

This is the second Sona in just over four months. It marks the start of the 6th  democratic Parliament after the country’s general election in May.

Ramaphosa will deliver the address under the theme “Let’s grow South Africa together as we celebrate 25 years of freedom”, since the country commemorates 25 years of freedom and democracy after the historic 1994 elections.

The celebration is said to reflect on the country’s successes and challenges, as well as find ways to improve the lives of people.

Port Elizabeth’s dancing Ivanah impresses US actor Will Smith

Nine million.

That is how many people have watched a Port Elizabeth child’s dancing video after Hollywood heavyweights Jada Pinkett-Smith and hubby Will Smith reposted a video to Instagram of the little girl busting a move in the street.

The video of six-year-old dancing sensation Ivanah Campbell jiving to Paga A Bebida Da Bela by DjBBoy has been shared by other verified Instagrammers such as the Nigerian Afropop singer and songwriter Yemi Alade, and by Okay Africa, a digital media platform dedicated to African culture, music and politics.

Triumph and tears: Pics from #ComradesMarathon2019

Durban – Breaking a 13-year-old Comrades Marathon record was a dream come true for Gerda Steyn especially as she had not planned on it, even though she knew it was a possibility.

The 2019 female Comrades winner crossed the finish line in the “up run” in a time of 5:58:53, shaving 10 minutes off the 13-year record of 6:09:23 held by Russia’s Elena Nurgalieva.

New R2 and R5 coins launched

The South African Reserve Bank and the South African Mint have launched a number of new circulation coins, celebrating South Africa’s 25 years of Constitutional democracy.

Speaking at a launch event on Wednesday (5 June), SARB governor Lesetya Kganyago said that the new circulation coins aim to highlight a few of the rights that resonated the most with citizens that were surveyed in South Africa.
