SADC to Launch deployment into the Kingdom of Lesotho on November 28

The Southern African Development Community (SADC) Contingent Force will start deployment into the Kingdom of Lesotho between the 20th to 27th November 2017 for an initial period of six months. The deployment will be officially launched on the 28th of November 2017, at Press Conference in Maseru, Lesotho.

Lesotho to receive security support

The SADC Double Troika Summit of Heads of State and Government has approved the deployment of a contingent force comprising of military, security, intelligence and civilian personnel who are expected to support the government of Lesotho.

The Southern African Development Community (SADC) Double Troika Summit of Heads of State and Government was held in Pretoria on Friday to discuss the political and security issues of Lesotho. The summit was chaired by President Jacob Zuma as the Chairperson of regional bloc.

Deputy President Ramaphosa encouraged by Lesotho progress

Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa is encouraged by the progress towards peace, stability and reforms in the mountain kingdom of Lesotho. On Wednesday, the Deputy President, who is also the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Facilitator, visited Maseru.

The visit took place against the backdrop of the June general elections in Lesotho, which saw the inauguration of a new Coalition Government under the leadership of Prime Minister Thomas Thabane. EXCLUSIVE: Lesotho not ready for elections, says former PM Thabane

Lesotho’s former prime minister Tom Thabane says the mountainous kingdom is not ready for elections, citing security concerns.

Thabane’s remarks came after the country’s King Letsie moved to dissolve parliament this week after Prime Minister Pakalitha Mosisili, who is also the leader of the Democratic Congress (DC) party lost a confidence vote. This, consequently, paved was for an election within three months.
