Brace yourselves for expected cold front

As winter takes hold over large parts of South Africa, Environmental Affairs Minister Edna Molewa has appealed to the citizens to keep warm as a cold weather pattern unfolds in the coming days.

 

The South African Weather Services (SAWS) has confirmed that a cold front is expected to arrive over the Western Cape. This will result in significant temperature drops in most parts of the country from Sunday.

 

The Weather Services has warned that as the cold front arrives in the Cape, localised flooding may occur in places in the Cape Metropole, Overberg and the Cape Winelands.

Cold weather to hit SA

Winter is coming.

On Wednesday afternoon, Weather SA forecaster Wisani Maluleke said a cold front was expected to hit the Western Cape this weekend. He said it would be moving across the Eastern Cape and it looked like it would reach KwaZulu-Natal early next week.

“We should start feeling it in KZN on Monday,” he said, “Snow is expected to fall in some parts of the province, including over the Southern Drakensberg.” Malukele said the forecast for Thursday looked cold and wet. Cape Town warned to reduce water consumption

The City of Cape Town has called on all water users to reduce their consumption immediately in line with the new Level 4b water restrictions that have been implemented.

The call comes as the latest water usage figures show unacceptably high consumption at 634 million litres of collective water use per day.

“Dam levels remain critically low and we must build up our reserves while we still have water. Dam storage levels are at 25.3% but usable water is only approximately 15.3%, which is very low for this time of the year and especially considering that a harsh summer has been predicted for 2018,” said the City’s Executive Mayor, Patricia de Lille.

PRESIDENT ZUMA TO VISIT ALEXANDRA FLOOD VICTIMS

Gauteng has had severe thunderstorms in the past couple of days

President Jacob Zuma will on Tuesday visit victims of the recent flash floods in Alexandra township, north of Johannesburg.

The Presidency says Zuma will also visit the family of three year-old Everite Chauke who went missing due to the floods.

The body of the Gauteng toddler who drowned in last week’s floods has still not been recovered

And the body of the 34-year old pregnant woman, Caroline Sithole was retrieved on the N3 near Linksfield in Johannesburg over the weekend. She will be buried in Bulawayo in Zimbabwe on Saturday.
