Western Cape heavy rains bring some relief

The Department of Water and Sanitation says Western Cape farmers can only hope for more rains during this rainy season to enable them to harvest more crops before the rains begin to wane at the end of October.

A weekly report published by the department this week stated that last week’s heavy rains in the Western Cape brought some relief to locals, as dam levels increased from 27.3% to 28.2%, raising water storage in the province to 475.5 cubic metres.

“Sporadic drizzles continued to pound Cape Town and outlying areas on Tuesday and Wednesday, raising hopes that the situation may improve in the next few days,” the report said.

Rainy Women’s Day expected

Weather forecasters predict a cold, wet Women’s Day for those in Durban.

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) said in their recent forecasts that temperatures were expected to dip this week.

Monday was partly cloudy in the morning and otherwise experienced a 30 percent chance of slight rain in the evening.

Tuesday was predicted to be wet too, with 30 percent chance of slight rain in the early morning expected, becoming cloudy later in the day, with slight rain in the evening.

The maximum temperatures on both days were 23 degrees Celsius.

Brace yourselves for expected cold front

As winter takes hold over large parts of South Africa, Environmental Affairs Minister Edna Molewa has appealed to the citizens to keep warm as a cold weather pattern unfolds in the coming days.


The South African Weather Services (SAWS) has confirmed that a cold front is expected to arrive over the Western Cape. This will result in significant temperature drops in most parts of the country from Sunday.


The Weather Services has warned that as the cold front arrives in the Cape, localised flooding may occur in places in the Cape Metropole, Overberg and the Cape Winelands.

Cold weather to hit SA

Winter is coming.

On Wednesday afternoon, Weather SA forecaster Wisani Maluleke said a cold front was expected to hit the Western Cape this weekend. He said it would be moving across the Eastern Cape and it looked like it would reach KwaZulu-Natal early next week.
