Uganda: NDA Seizes Fake Hepatitis Vaccines

The National Drug Authority (NDA) is investigating how eight private hospitals and clinics came to sell counterfeit hepatitis B vaccines in Mbarara, Kampala and Mbale.

As inquiries proceed, the authority has asked the public to remain calm awaiting further advice. Amos Atumanya, the NDA regulatory officer who led the three-week preliminary investigation, told journalists yesterday that the fake vaccines are allegedly manufactured by the Serum Institute of India.

“We got our first complaint from Mbarara. This person got the fake labels on Mbarara street and was able to inform our regional office,” Atumanya told journalists at NDA offices in Kampala. [...]

40 INVESTMENT PROJECTS TO STIMULATE GROWTH

President Jacob Zuma says the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Investment will coordinate 40 priority investment projects aimed at creating jobs and igniting growth

The President said this when he answered oral questions from Members of Parliament in the National Assembly on Tuesday. He was responding to a question on decisions that have been made to take the Nine-Point Plan to a higher level.

GOVERNMENT’S JOB CREATION EFFORTS PAY OFF

Government has created more than 2.3 million jobs through various incentives in the past five years, says the Department of Trade and Industry (dti)

Presenting the dti’s 2015/16 Annual Report to the Portfolio Committee of Trade and Industry in Parliament on Tuesday, the department’s Director General Lionel October said most of the jobs were created in the community and social services sector.
