Durban launches CBD clean-up programme

A robust plan to rejuvenate the Durban Central Business District (CBD) was tabled last week by eThekwini Mayor Zandile Gumede during the official launch of the radical CBD clean-up and safety programme.

The programme, which Mayor Gumede said will attract investment and create more employment, aims to address cleanliness and safety related issues which includes crime, grime, illegal trading and derelict buildings.

The mayor applauded city officials for the great work undertaken in the past three weeks as part of the first phase of the programme that ensured cleanliness, compliance and safety.

Automotive industry encouraged to partner with city on GO! Durban system

Around 150 automotive industry representatives, public transport operators, business people and entrepreneurs gathered at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli Convention Centre on Wednesday, August 30 to discuss some vital issues that will ultimately affect the efficient running of future public transport in  eThekwini.

Foreign investor to create 1000 jobs

Kwazulu-Natal and eThekwini Municipality continue to attract international investors with Chinese company Jingmen Hubei set to open two factories in Ezimbokodweni and Umgababa, south of Durban, and create 1000 employment opportunities.

This has been welcomed by Premier Willies Mchunu and eThekwini Mayor Zandile Gumede following the announcement by the Chinese delegation that was made at Umhlanga’s Oyster Box Hotel on 14 August. The development is a result of the relations forged between KwaZulu-Natal and Hubei Province, from the People’s Republic of China, located in the Central China region.

Tsogo Sun Amashova Durban Classic adds to city coffers

The Tsogo Sun Amashova Durban Classic increases city coffers and promotes tourism. A study recently conducted by Tourism KwaZulu-Natal (TKZN) on the economic impacts of the 2016 Tsogo Sun Amashova Durban Classic revealed that between R56,8 million and R93,2 million was injected into KZN’s coffers during the race period.

Race organiser Annie Batchelder said: “The race continues to grow in appeal and popularity every year and we are proud that it has become a catalyst for economic growth in the province.”
