Hofmeyr vows that ‘show will go on’ after George municipality withdraws concert consent

Controversial Afrikaans singer Steve Hofmeyr has vowed that the “show will go on”, after the George Municipality withdrew permission for him to lease out the local hall for his concert next week.

He confirmed to News24 on Thursday that he was consulting lawyers and that the municipality would have to explain their actions.

“The George town council first gives permission and then takes it away,” he said.

“That show will carry on. At the same venue. We are pursuing litigation.”

He said “being gagged by liberals” was “nothing new” for him.

#Oscars: Hollywood A-listers hits and misses

The Academy Awards make a big Hollywood fashion statement, and the red carpet at this year’s 90th Oscars on Sunday night favoured neutrals, reds and bold colours.

The Dolby Theater in Los Angeles set the scene for some of our favourite actors, such as Black Panther cast members Lupita Nyong’o and Chadwick Boseman, and veteran actress Rita Moreno, while others didn’t quite match up.

Netflix, Amazon and Hulu are poised for Oscar stardom

Streaming TV is crashing the Oscar party, and it’s only a matter of time before a production from Netflix or Amazon or even — someone get the defibrillator — Hulu wins Best Picture.

Last year, “Manchester by the Sea,” an Amazon co-production (with Pearl Street Films and K Period Media), was nominated for six Oscars, including Best Picture and took won two statuettes — Best Actor (Casey Affleck) and Best Original Screenplay (Kenneth Lonergan).
