The new content coming to Netflix in 2018

While competitors race to catch up with Netflix Inc., the largest online TV service in the world is adhering to a simple strategy to maintain its lead: you have to spend money to make money.

The streaming pioneer will deploy as much as $8 billion on programming next year, as much as a third more than in 2017. The increase alone is almost as much as HBO spends annually. Netflix, based in Los Gatos, California, will also pony up more than $1 billion for marketing.

Sindi Dlathu shares a glimpse of her plans post Muvhango

After 20 years on Muvhango‚ Sindi Dlathu’s exit from the popular soapie shocked many‚ but the actress has revealed this isn’t the end of the road for her time in the spotlight.

Having captured the hearts of South Africans as Thandaza on the show‚ the actress told Drum magazine that she left the production purely on faith and that all she was sure off was she was not “going into retirement”.

“I don’t have any specific thing I’m going to do now. The one thing I can tell you is I’m definitely not going into retirement. I’m just going to have fun exploring and growing outside of my home‚ Muvhango‚” she said.

Lillian Dube to get honorary doctorate

Lillian Dube has gone from a humble maid earning R80 a month, to a screen goddess, and now an honorary doctor.

The Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) will next week confer a DTech (Honoris Causa) endorsements Drama and Film Production on Dube for her body of work that spans over 30 years.

The television and film veteran has dabbled as a tea lady at a furniture factory in Johannesburg, and worked as a credit clerk for retail stores before she achieved showbiz fame.

In their citation TUT noted in part: “The honorary degree is based on your contribution to the broad field of the Arts in particular and social causes in general.”

Sindi Dlathu bids farewell to Muvhango after 20 long years


Veteran actress Sindi Dlathu is bowing out of SABC2’s popular drama Muvhango after two decades. Dlathu, 43, who plays Thandaza Mokoena, is one of the longest-serving actresses in the show.

She had been part of the drama from its inception. The news of her resignation comes shortly after the drama celebrated its 20th birthday. Muvhango’s first episode was aired in April 1997. Throughout the years, Dlathu has become part of the 3.5million viewers of the show.
