1000 Hills Experience

The Valley of 1000 Hills is named after the many hills, cliffs and valleys which rise up from the banks of the Umgeni River as it flows from the distant Drakensberg mountains to the Indian Ocean. The diverse area combines the luxury of laid-back country living with an ancient, indigenous culture on its doorstep. Mpumalanga mountain lodge reopens after six years

Blue Mountain Lodge, situated between Sabie and Hazy view, Mpumalanga, reopened last month, after being closed for six years. The lodge was acquired by Lefe Group from the Netherlands in November, 2016.

The lodge sleeps 30 guests. It comprises a manor house as well as, eight Victorian suites, four quadrant suites, and the Ballentine suite. The suites each accommodate two guests. The lodge’s Donovan Louw explains that the ballentine suite, otherwise known as the Presidential suite, is where Nelson Mandela used to stay during his visits to the area between 1992 and 2002.  Children under the age of 15 are restricted, except for the manor house. South Africa has once again been recognised as one of the best places to visit globally at the recent 21st World Travel Awards held in Anguilla in the Caribbean.

The country was especially admired for their safari offering, Winning the prize for the the World’s Leading Safari Destination!

Apart from being named as the World’s Leading Safari Destination, other individual institutions also won awards for their service excellence in making South Africa the leading safari destination.
