Cassper Nyovest and AKA Twitter Theft War
Hip hop fans were up in arms recently and that’s not because of rapper Cassper Nyovest’s front cover of South Africa’s Drum Magazine professing his undying love and engagement to the gorgeous Boity, but instead when it was revealed that a new track from the rapper called Turn up Gang, bore more than a passing resemblance to a song by Ivorian group, Kiff No Beat.
The inspector is none other than the self-proclaimed face of South African hip hop, AKA, who has been blowing up in the media thanks to that dangerous stunt he pulled on a fan at the Vodacom Durban July earlier this month and more recently the birth of his baby girl. He apparently stumbled upon the “coincidence” and alerted the Twitter police, who went guns blazing after Cassper.
Posting a picture of the video from Kiff No Beat, AKA wrote: “Turn up! Gang! Turn up! Gang! Turn up! Gang! Is this what the game has come to?”
But the case of theft was dropped after it was revealed by Kiff No Beat that Cassper’s song was actually a remix authorised by them. As Kiff No Beat took to twitter in Cassper’s defence to write: “We already know @casspernyovest is remixing our track bro, he got the instrumental version from us”. Well that just got awkard…
All tweets have since been deleted.
So it seems this could be the “international” collaboration Mr Nyovest promised would be on his new album.
