ANC in Western Cape to march in support of Zuma

The city has approved an application made by the ANC Dullah Omar region to gather on 8 August starting at the Grand Parade marching to Parliament.

The African National Congress (ANC) in the Western Cape plans to march to Parliament in support of President Jacob Zuma on the day of the motion of no confidence vote.

Members of Parliament will take part in a vote which could see President Zuma impeached should the vote not go in his favour.

While it’s known that opposition parties and civil organisations intend to march to Parliament on 8 August, the City of Cape Town has confirmed that the ANC has also applied to have 15,000 people march to Parliament in support of Zuma.

The City’s Hayley van de Woute says two permits will be granted on Thursday – one to the ANC and the other to opposition parties and civil society organisations and both groups have been granted permission for 15,000 people.

She says both groups will receive their permits today.

Van de Woute says the City of Cape Town’s law enforcement agencies will work with the national police to maintain law and order.
