S.Africa: App enables investors to benefit from rising global beef demand

Cattle have long been considered a measure of wealth across Africa but it is not just farmers cashing in.

A pioneering app in South Africa allows investors, eager to benefit from rising global beef demand, buy shares in a cow from their mobile phone for as little as ($41).

Launched in 2015 with 26 cows, the project now includes more than 2,000 cows and has taken in 50 million rand, with 10 percent of investors coming from outside South Africa.

Le Clos bags South Africa’s third FINA World champs medal

Chad le Clos claimed South Africa’s third medal of the Swimming World Championships on Saturday, taking bronze in the 100m butterfly to add to his 200m bronze.

The 27-year-old finished third in 51.16 seconds, behind America’s new world record holder Caeleb Dressel, who took gold by swimming the second fastest time in history (49.66), and Russian Andrei Minakov (50.83).

Le Clos managed to reach the wall just one tenth of a second ahead of Hungary’s 200m butterfly gold medallist and world record holder Kristof Milak.

Singita launches journey for SA to Antarctica

Singita has partnered with White Desert Antarctica and One&Only to offer guests a series of unique encounters with wildlife in a 12-day itinerary commencing on November 12.

Starting in the Kruger National Park, guests will stay four nights at either Singita Lebombo or Sweni Lodge. The remote location of these lodges, overlooking rivers filled with hippo and crocodile, allows guests to immerse themselves in the bush setting. Two daily game drives are offered, with sightings of elephant, giraffe, zebra, lion, leopard and cheetah, along with birdlife, cats and other plains game.
