South Africa’s Jordy Smith sets his sights on JBay open

Sitting at number four on the Jeep leaderboard of the World Surf League (WSL) Championship Tour (CT), Durban-born Red Bull athlete Jordy Smith is a top contender for this year’s Corona JBay Open title. Smith already has two victories under his belt at this iconic location, winning back-to-back events in 2010 and 2011, beating Adam Melling and Mick Fanning respectively in those two events.

Smith has long been recognised as one of the best surfers at Supertubes, and apart from the two victories, has a number of ten-point rides as well as an extremely rare perfect twenty-point heat score that he achieved in 2017.

J-Bay Open 2019

A pro tournament in one of world’s best surfing destinations

J-Bay Open also known as Billabong Pro Jeffreys Bay is a World Surf League competition held every year at Jeffreys Bay in Eastern Cape, South Africa. A legendary surfer Kelly Slater has won the first J-Bay Open as well as competitions in 2003, 2005 and 2008. J-Bay Open was the sixth stop on the Men’s Surfing Championship Tour 2018. It is also notoriously famous since surfer Mick Fanning was attacked here by a shark during the final.

Beyoncé releases new single made with South African producer and composer Lebo M

Cape Town – Beyoncé has released Spirit a song she made with South African producer and composer, Lebo M. and Hans Zimmer among others.

The single is featured on an album curated by the singer who also stars in The Lion King as Nala. The album is titled The Lion King: The Gift and it will be released on 19 July the same as the film which is a remaining of the Disney classic.

Along with The Gift, Walt Disney Records will release the original soundtrack for the new live-action remake of 1994 classic on 11 July, and according to Pitchfork, it features Can You Feel the Love Tonight with Beyoncé and Donald Glover.
