Bafana Bafana Afcon 2021 qualifying fixtures confirmed

Bafana Bafana are set to kick off their Afcon 2021 qualifiers with a tough away fixture.

Bafana Bafana will kick off their bid for a second consecutive appearance in the continent’s premier soccer competition with a trip to Ghana later this year.

Stuart Baxter’s men begin their Afcon 2021 in November, and have been drawn in Group C alongside the Black Stars, Sudan and one of Mauritius and Sao Tome e Principe, who are set to square off for the final spot in the pool.

They jet off to the West African nation first up, with the opening fixture taking place on Friday, 15 November.

Robben Island Museum booking system hamstrings tour operators

Despite the Robben Island Museum’s work to improve its booking and refund systems, these still aren’t functioning optimally and are hamstringing tour operators.

“It’s just become more difficult to book tickets, and communication with the museum is non-existent,” says Hylton Ross Branch Manager, Jackie Mitchell.

Spokesperson for the museum, Morongoa Ramaboa, says the heritage site is engaging with its official ticket operator about how and if it’s possible to reduce the waiting period for refunds, given the concerns raised.

Africell to spend $100m on mobile infrastructure and fintech in Africa

Kampala — African telecom firm Africell plans to spend part of a $100m US credit line on expanding its infrastructure and fintech services, its CEO says.

The 18-year-old company, which has 15-million subscribers across its four African operations, secured the loan in May from the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (Opic), the US government’s private investment fund.

Africell founder and CEO Ziad Dalloul said the money would help fund infrastructure investments for its operations in Uganda, Democratic Republic of Congo, Gambia and Sierra Leone.

Cameroonian doctor saves endangered Grey parrots

Dr. John Anyam spends most of his time assisting birds at the Limbé Wildlife center in Cameroon.

They are mainly African Grey parrots who were dehydrated and ridden with parasites.

These parrots were rescued with their feathers cut by poachers to prevent them from flying.

“So we rescue, we rehabilitate and then we release, like these parrots that are rescued, we are rehabilitating them for release. So doing a general health check, pulling off the clipped feathers, pulling off feathers that are destroyed by glue is to stimulate fast growth of new feathers, that can enable them to fly”, Dr. Anyam said.
