South Africa plans new elephant nursery

Due to the growing number of orphaned elephants within South Africa, a new fully dedicated elephant nursery will be built at Jabulani Safari in the Kruger National Park, with further plans to build a new guest lodge, Little Jabu, also under way.

The decision was made to move the orphaned elephants from Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre to the new nursery which is closer to the Jabulani stables.

Tayler Scott becomes the second South African to play Major League Baseball

Johannesburg-born Tayler Scott has become just the second South African to play Major League Baseball (MLB) in the United States.

Scott was promoted from minor league Tacoma on Friday to reinforce the Seattle Mariners bullpen, and he made his debut relieving Yusei Kikuchi during the fourth inning of Saturday’s game against the Anaheim Angels, he went 2 2/3 innings allowing four hits and three runs with a single walk and four strikeouts.

Utility infielder Gift Ngoepe was the first ever South African to play MLB turning out for the Pittsburgh Pirates and Toronto Blue Jays, while the 29-year-old currently plays Triple-A ball with the Phillies.

Triumph and tears: Pics from #ComradesMarathon2019

Durban – Breaking a 13-year-old Comrades Marathon record was a dream come true for Gerda Steyn especially as she had not planned on it, even though she knew it was a possibility.

The 2019 female Comrades winner crossed the finish line in the “up run” in a time of 5:58:53, shaving 10 minutes off the 13-year record of 6:09:23 held by Russia’s Elena Nurgalieva.
