In March 2018, the country rolled out the drug-dispensing units at six sites in the Free State and Gauteng, where the machines can be found in shopping malls in Alexandra, Soweto and Diepsloot. The apparatuses work just like ATMs except instead of releasing cash, they pop out medication for people with chronic conditions such as epilepsy, diabetes, high blood pressure or HIV.

US TO LIFT STEEL, ALUMINUM DUTIES ON CANADA AND MEXICO

The U.S. plans to lift steel and aluminum tariffs on Canada and Mexico in favor of stronger enforcement actions, according to people familiar with the matter, in a move that will help clear the way for ratification of the new NAFTA.

The U.S. tariffs are expected to be lifted about 48 hours. Canada and Mexico will eliminate their retaliatory tariffs, the people said.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s office said in a statement on May 17 that he and President Donald Trump discussed the steel and aluminum tariffs and other issues by phone. Trudeau is traveling to Hamilton, the hub of Canada’s steel sector, for an announcement Friday, one person said.

MTN Nigeria debuts with $6.5b listing in Nigeria Stock Exchange

MTN Nigeria, owned by South Africa’s MTN Group, on Thursday listed in Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) in a N2 trillion ($6.54 billion) flotation.

The listing turns the telecoms company into the exchange’s second-largest stock by market value. MTN Nigeria’s shares climbed 10 percent from their listing price of 90 naira after the float went live.

“The telecoms space accounts for a little over 9 percent of GDP so bringing in the big companies in that space is very critical for us and MTN being the largest and the market leader, this is a major listing for us,” said CEO, Nigeria Stock Exchange, Oscar Onyema.

NO SEMENYA AT STOCKHOLM DIAMOND LEAGUE AFTER GENDER RULING

Double Olympic champion Caster Semenya, who lost her appeal over a controversial gender ruling, will not race at this month’s Diamond League meeting in Stockholm, the organisers told AFP on Thursday.
