POLICE WON’T HESITATE TO ACT AGAINST VOTING DISRUPTIONS, WARNS TOP COP

 Officers are on high alert in areas identified as hotspots, particularly in Vuwani in Limpopo, Soweto and areas in KwaZulu-Natal as well as the North West.

In Potchefstroom, in Ikageng an empty ballot box was also set alight.

Sitole said that police would not hesitate to act.

“If any incident occurs, as police, we respond immediately because we’ve made a commitment to the nation that would have a safe election.”

Every polling station will see at least two police officers – double the number will be deployed to medium to low-risk stations, while high-risk stations will have six officers present.

Checkers launches new collectables promotion – Little Checkers

Following on from its Little Shop and Little Garden promotions, Checkers has launched its Little Checkers collectables. For every R200 spent in store, Checkers and Checkers Hyper shoppers will receive a block pack, each containing a unit that forms part of a 35-piece mini Checkers supermarket.

The blocks come in a 100% recyclable pack and each contains one individual unit (such as a mini till, freezer, shopping cart, dairy shelf and more) as well as stickers to complete the unit and an instruction leaflet.

Lourens head and shoulders above at Pretoria ITP

Johan Lourens owned the men’s division at the recent General Tire Lifesaving South Africa Inter-provincials at Pretoria’s Hillcrest Pool.

Lourens’s Gauteng A took the overall honours from North West and Western Cape, while also winning the open title. Gauteng A’s Nippers were dominant in taking first place, and the junior victors were Free State.

KwaZulu-Natal, whose athletes excelled in the pool at the National Club Championships earlier in the year, did not participate at the inter-provincials.
