THE BEST WAY TO STOP RHINO POACHING

Expansion follows a successful pilot in South Africa which reduced rhino poaching incidents by 96%

South Africa, Johannesburg – 10 May 2018 – Global technology giants, Dimension Data and Cisco, today announced that they are expanding their anti-poaching Connected Conservation programme into Zambia, Kenya, and Mozambique to continue protecting rhino, as well as help fight the war on the startling numbers of African savanna elephant being poached. This move follows a successful pilot which saw the two companies install some of the world’s most sophisticated technology in a private game reserve located next to the world-renowned Kruger National Park in South Africa.

SA READIES LATEST OCEAN-WATCHING SATELLITE FOR LAUNCH

Science and Technology Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi-Ngubane will unveil South Africa’s most sophisticated satellite on Tuesday ahead of its launch in India in July.

The nanosatellite, dubbed ZACUBE-2, was developed by Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) and the French South African Institute of Technology as a follow-up to the previous nanosatellite, ZACUBE-1, which was launched from Yasny Launch Base in Russia.

At 4kg, ZACUBE-2 is significantly heavier than ZACUBE-1, which weighed 1.2kg. It is the fourth satellite which SA has launched.

Its dimensions are also larger than ZACUBE-1 at 10cm x 10cm x 30cm and it will circle Earth 550km up in a polar [...]

‘FNB LAUNCHES SOUTH AFRICA’S FIRST BIOMETRIC MINI-ATM TO MAKE BANKING EASY

Known as TouchPoint, the device functions as a self-service kiosk from which customers can conduct transactional banking such as W, transfers and payments, view statements, purchase airtime and electricity and perform card cancellations. In addition to this, the device also allows for new account opening by reading a consumer’s thumb print.
