South Africa welcomes German companies’ continued investment

South Africa has welcomed the vote of confidence shown by Germany’s continued investment in the South African economy.

Speaking at the German National Day celebrations in Waterkloof, Tshwane, and Communications Minister Ayanda Dlodlo said South Africa enjoys a robust and growing trade relationship with the European powerhouse.

In 2016, Germany moved up to second place as the largest global export market for South African goods and remained South Africa’s second largest import market, cementing Germany’s position as South Africa’s second largest global trading partner overall.

Zulu museum named as Africa’s best building

A museum built in Durban to celebrate Zulu heritage has won the first Africa Architecture Awards.

uMkhumbane Cultural and Heritage Museum in Cato Manor‚ built for R75-million in 2016 and designed by Choromanski Architects of Durban‚ was unveiled as the $10‚000 (R135‚000) winner on Thursday night at the new Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa in Cape Town.

The awards‚ sponsored by construction materials giant Saint-Gobain‚ attracted 307 entries from 32 countries. The shortlist of 21 projects‚ as well as the final winners‚ were chosen by a jury of leading African architects and academics.

Selected SARS branches to open on Saturdays

The South African Revenue Service (SARS) will as of this weekend extend its office hours at selected branches nationwide so as to assist taxpayers.

The revenue service will extend office hours to Saturdays from 8am to 1pm from 30 September until 18 November.

“Please note that the extended hours will prioritise queries specifically related to income tax returns,” said SARS on Thursday.

Taxpayers can view the list of branches that will open at the weekend here: selected branches.

Russia makes room for South African black winemakers

Black-owned wine companies will get a foot into the Russian market when a group of importers visit South Africa next week.

The four-day Russian Inward Buying Mission will start on Monday at the Invest South Africa Western Cape One Stop Shop. The delegation will also visit some of the farms and premises in various parts of the Western Cape during the mission.

The mission is a result of a meeting between South African Trade and Industry Deputy Minister Bulelani Magwanishe and the CEO of Marine Express, Andre Kuzmin, on the sidelines of the St Petersburg International Economic Forum in June.
