Digital migration will happen by December 2018 – Minister

Communications Minister Ayanda Dlodlo has reiterated her commitment to see all South Africans migrating from analogue to digital television by December 2018.

“I have full appreciation of the impact that the digital migration project is set to have on the economy of this country. I therefore have no intention to delay the process,” Minister Dlodlo said on Sunday.

The International Telecommunications Union has prescribed countries to switch over from an analogue television signal to a digital terrestrial television signal which will allow for the radio frequency spectrum to be freed up and allowing for faster mobile data services.

Rainy Women’s Day expected

Weather forecasters predict a cold, wet Women’s Day for those in Durban.

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) said in their recent forecasts that temperatures were expected to dip this week.

Monday was partly cloudy in the morning and otherwise experienced a 30 percent chance of slight rain in the evening.

Tuesday was predicted to be wet too, with 30 percent chance of slight rain in the early morning expected, becoming cloudy later in the day, with slight rain in the evening.

The maximum temperatures on both days were 23 degrees Celsius.

New Economic Development MMC appointed for Joburg

City of Johannesburg Mayor Herman Mashaba on Monday announced that Leah Knott would assume the position of Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Economic Development.

“MMC Knott brings with her years of ward-based community activism, serving the people of Johannesburg. MMC Knott holds a legal qualification and years of experience in the property development planning industry prior to becoming a councillor,” Mashaba said in a statement.

Government congratulates IAAF medallists

Government has congratulated athletes Luvo Manyonga and Ruswahl Samaai on their medal wins at the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Championships in London.

On Monday, Communications Minister Ayanda Dlodlo congratulated long jumper Luvo Manyonga, who won a gold medal and Ruswahl Samaai, who won a bronze medal in the men’s long jump on Saturday.
